Sergey Ryazanskiy

Hero of the Russian Federation, cosmonaut, Ph.D.

The world’s first scientist who became a spacecraft commander (Soyuz MS 05, 2017)

Born November 13, 1974 in Moscow.

1996 – Graduated from the Moscow State University, biochemistry.

Ph.D in “physiology” and “aviation and space medicine”.

Graduated with honors from the Master’s program of the Russian Academy of National Economy and Public Administration under the President of the Russian Federation, specializing in “State and municipal management”.

Participated in the project “Mars-500” as commander of the crew of Mars 105.

Since 2016 – Chairman of the Russian movement of schoolchildren.

In June 2003 he was enlisted as a candidate in cosmonauts team of GNTs RF – IMBP RAN. In 2005, the qualification of “cosmonaut researcher” was awarded to him after successful examinations. And in 2010 the qualification of “test-operator cosmonaut” was awarded to Sergey.

Performed 2 space flights, logging total 306 days, and during these flights he performed 4 spacewalks with a total duration of 27 hours 39 minutes. In the first space flight together with Oleg Kotov, he took out into outer space the Olympic torch of the Sochi Winter Olympics. And their second EVA was one of the longest in the history of the Soviet and Russian cosmonautics: 8 hours 7 minutes.

Acts as a speaker on leadership, motivation, team building and work in stressful conditions. Lectures of Sergey Ryazanskiy built as motivational fascinating conversations on given psychological accents on the example of selection, training of astronauts, spacewalks, work on the ISS, etc.

In his free time Sergey likes to read, travel, play the guitar.

Married, has 4 children.
